GLANCE
It has a deep honey color to it with medium viscosity and short legs
NOSE
I got rich vanilla, with peatiness coming through which was interesting. Then I got notes of cinnamon bun, freshly baked bread and milk chocolate notes. With nice hints of fruit jammy notes. I also got peanut butter with notes of confection sugar, along with some smokiness.
TASTE
You get smoky and slight peatiness with heavy oak in the front. Then I started to taste the baking spices, vanilla, nutmeg and it finishes with lingering caramel towards the back. Here you can taste the grain but it’s mixed in with this peanut butter, rich vanilla and dark chocolate notes. At times I also got a medicinal cherry like note in the middle of the palate.

FINISH
The finish is medium to long with nice notes of vanilla, rich caramel with lingering baking spices.

CLOSING REMARKS
Right off the bat this is a great bang for your buck at $28. Smooth Ambler Old Scout American Whiskey 107 is a great blend, where at 107 proof you get a ton of delicious flavors. It is well balanced that delivers great notes but it lets you know the proof is there. The nose was a joy to tease out all those notes and the palate didn’t disappoint. Its very drinkable and it has come to be my daily drinker. The mouthfeel and what I was tasting, was along the lines of barrel proof bourbons I have tried, but without the high proof. It can’t be called bourbon because it is blended with the non-bourbon part that is American whiskey. This American whisky, which is technically bourbon (at 51% corn at least), hasn’t been aged in virgin American white oak but aged in new charred bourbon barrels. Regardless if you have never tried this, I highly recommend you do. Its easy to find relatively and it drinks great. Cheers!
