GLANCE

It has medium viscosity with short legs and nice deep rich copper color

NOSE

On the nose I get rich vanilla, nutmeg, clove, lot of oak, baking spices, rich smell of dates. Then as it opened up I got blueberry/strawberry jam with heavy brown sugar and notes of PB & J sandwich.

TASTE

On the palate I got fruit/citrus notes with apple pie, pumpkin spice, with heavy notes off brown sugar and vanilla. It has a creamy and then dry mouthfeel towards the end. It is vanilla and baking spice heavy.

FINISH

The finish is a long spice finish with a deep Kentucky hug. There are bitter very oaky notes and they linger on.

CLOSING REMARKS

Makers Mark, is a wheated bourbon. This automatically gives you a very pleasant and delicate but full of flavor bourbon. Ever since Makers Mark released their 46, they have been coming out with innovative products. Starting off with their new pipeline with these limited releases. Makers Mark today is known to experiment with different staves and barreling. The 2019 RC6 is no exception to this. The RC6 stands for Research Center 6. The 6 signifies the specific stave recipe used to finish this bourbon. They have partnered up with Independent Stave company to hand select the different staves for the finishing process, to pull the specific flavors. From Maker’s Mark website:

Finished with 10 very distinct wood staves (Stave Profile RC6), the Maker’s Mark® Wood Finishing Series 2019 Limited Release Bourbon was crafted to feature more pronounced fruit notes and a brighter finish while retaining the balance of baking spice and sweetness found in the original Maker’s Mark®

Utilizing the 10 virgin toasted American oak staves, I believe Maker’s Mark has released a very unique product. There are a lot of notes to dissect both on the palate and the nose. At almost 110 proof, you get a lot of bold flavors and great drinkability. There is that unbalance in the finish with the heavier oak tannins you pick up on the palate, that really come out in the finish. Aside from that this is all in all, a home run in my book. A must buy and I know you will love it! Cheers 🙂
