CLOSING REMARKS

I was satisfied with this offering from Brown Foreman. I can see this being a great introductory bourbon or using it to convince your wife/girlfriend to join you for a dram or two! Its a very friendly approachable bourbon and especially for the price it offers quite a lot. From their website:

An innovative approach to twice-barreled bourbon creates the rich and colorful flavor of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Uniquely matured in separate, charred oak barrels – the second barrel deeply toasted before a light charring – extracts additional soft, sweet oak character.

-Company Website Woodford Reserve

I am not a huge fan of their base offering and I believe finishing the maturation in the separate charred virgin oak barrels really rounds out the flavors makes the bourbon way smoother. Interestingly, though I could taste the oak influence it was fleeting and didn’t make its presence felt. It’s a huge improvement from their base offering and a great competitor in its price range. Having said this, I couldn’t put this as my daily drinker. It’s a dessert bourbon and I don’t know about you guys, but having dessert everyday will get old real fast for me. Its sweet notes (chocolate, milk, cream, and caramel) are really pronounced and at times overpowers the palate. This makes it not that well balanced but at the price point, I won’t knock it down that much. Still a nice tasting experience overall. Cheers!
