GLANCE

Clear with a dark rust color and deep intensity.

NOSE

Clean with classic bourbon notes that hit you with vanilla, caramel and brown sugar. I got notes of cherry (cherry cola), strawberry jam (stewed fruits) with dates and some baking spices (nutmeg, hints of cardamon). Medium to pronounced intensity.

PALATE

I got sweet cherry cola, root beer, maple syrup and cooked strawberry. These flavors were in the front of the palate. Middle of the palate I got more sweet fruit with some baking spices. Somewhat oily mouthfeel texture with peanuts at the end.

FINISH

Medium in length and simple overall. I was able to pick up on notes of brown sugar, caramel, cherry and rye spice heat.

CLOSING REMARKS

From the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof batches I have tasted, I was surprised how mellow it was in some parts of the drinking experience. It doesn’t punch you in the face but that rye spice/ baking spice does creep in to give you a warning of the heat. ECBP have made their name in the whiskey community by being full of bold flavors and high proof. This felt off -profile in that sense at times but is still a very nice dram. Just doesn’t lift you off your feet. In any case, these are still a great value in bourbon today so don’t hesitate to grab one at or near MSRP! Cheers friends.
