GLANCE

Clear with medium intensity – Golden hue

NOSE

Clean with pronounced intensity. Melon and sweet peaches hit me right away. Aromas of freshly picked strawberries, raspberries and candied fruits. Notes of vegetable rye spice, butter toast and maple syrup.

PALATE

Wow lot of good stuff here. Pronounced flavor intensity and silky to warming texture. Full of fruits, candied fruits and bubble gum with sprinkling of rye spice. Apricot, butter toast, honey with maple syrup and oak. Sprinkling of cinnamon spice. At times it reminded me of sugarcane juice

FINISH

Long and with some complexity. Notes of melon, candied fruits, sugarcane juice, cinnamon/raisins, apricots and pears.

CLOSING REMARKS

MGP Rye 95/5 can’t go wrong to be honest and as long aged stocks at MGP begin to dwindle down prices have shot up. The single barrels cask strength ryes from Nashville Barrel have mostly been received very well by whiskey enthusiasts. This one is a blend of various barrels. The blend and barrel selection was done well. Lot of great flavors to dig through and makes you wanting to come back for more! If I was a millionaire I wouldn’t bat an eye at the price but as that is not the case, when I go out to acquire a bottle within my whiskey budget – prices matter. Couple things that I feel right off the bat, makes me consider other options given the price point of this product.

  • Not age stated
  • Not a single barrel
  • The exact mashbill and grains can be found in various other products

Angels Envy and Sagamore source from MGP as well and their product line is amazing for a significantly lower price point than Nashville Barrel Company. Overall this was an enjoyable pour and would reach for it again in my cabinet. Cheers!
