Clear with light gold straw hue. Light intensity

NOSE

Strong melon with rich bouquet of apples, apple pie, orange jam and buttered toast. Sweet smoke reminds me of bbq. Ginger with plump raisins and hints of brown sugar/molasses + bright reds fruits.

PALATE

Melon throughout with pear and raisins. Got notes of apple + apple skins in the middle with white pepper in the back of the palate. Wildflower honey with smoke and creamy oats. Notes of baking spices (cinnamon + nutmeg) in the back of the palate. Felt viscous and oily giving way to a great mouthfeel with pronounced flavor intensity. Medium sweetness overall.

FINISH

Long and complex. White grape, vanilla, pepper, leather, pear & melon

CLOSING REMARKS

Glenglassaugh distillery has an interesting past. Founded in 1873 it resides along the north coast of Speyside near Banff and macDuff. Though the distillery itself is old, it has functioned for less than half of its life! It was built by James Moir who owned the Glenglassaugh Distillery Company which he started with Thomas Wilson (local copper-smith) and his nephews Alexander & William Morrison. It cost around 10,000 pounds to get the distillery fully functioning back then. In 1892 Highland Distilleries acquired Glenglassaugh and increased production to 110,000 gallons by 1898. Unfortunately, shortly after whisky saw a recession and mostly lows than highs for some decades. Though there is speculation if the distillery was up and running during the early part of the 20th century, there is evidence that tells us the distillery began producing again in 1960. They produced whiskies for the blending market and when whisky went into a depression in the 80’s, this resulted in Glenglassaugh closing its doors once again. In 2008 the distillery was sold to the Scaent Group from the Edrington Group for 5 million pounds. Since then it has exchanged ownership two more times and today Brown-Forman is the owner. Under new ownership the product line has been expanded and the future looks bright.

Now to the whisky in question. This single cask bottling from San Francisco Whisky Bourbon Scotch Society (SFWBSS) nicely showcases the type of whisky Glenglassaugh can provide. Its non-offending and very approachable flavor profile almost has me adding this to my daily drinker rotation! There are quite a few other SB offerings from Glenglassaugh at your large liquor retailers now, which is a welcoming sight. As whisky prices have soared, I can confidently say you will get the value for your money with this one. Cheers!
