GLANCE

A nice hints of copper with a great golden color. Almost has a beer like color to it. High viscosity and slow forming and slow falling tall legs

NOSE

Right away you smell the Jamaican rum. As you swirl it, I got notes of fruit and citrus. There are hints of caramel with spice notes. Towards the end I got notes of lemon, cherry and dark fruit notes.

TASTE

Here I tasted the Jamaican rum right away, then I got the fruit/jammy notes. Then there were hints of citrus followed with diluted baking spice notes. As it opened up I got, I got notes of honey in the middle of the palate.

FINISH

The finish is medium in length with oak and some hints of baking spices, with a nice dragged out heat to it.

CLOSING REMARKS

What can I say about high west, they keep bringing out unique products. Even though it’s not their own distillate, they take that MGP and turn it into something amazing. High West is always pushing the envelope and they have other American prairie picks from select stores that are aged in other barrels. Such as Muscat, Madeira, and Barrel Aged Manhattan. From the same mash-bill and around the same age, each expression is very unique. This was a well balanced expression in my opinion with nice burst of flavors. Drinks like a 90 proofer were you get a nice burst of rye spice, sweet molasses like flavors with nice pops of citrus. In many ways this is what High West delivers but it felt more pronounced in this offering. I wouldn’t make this a daily drinker, because there are lot of flavors going on here which demands your attention and also the bottle is not easily replaceable. Overall its a must buy for all their barrel picks and I am sure you will find the experience unique if nothing else. Cheers! 🙂
